As the 1970s neared its end\, the retro movie theatre began to slowly fall into disarray. Not to allow such a prominent part of Dublin GA history fall away\, in the 90’s a group of businessmen and an enthusiastic community came together to save the historic theatre from demolition with a complete renovation. DESCRIPTION:Relive a powerful chapter of Dublin’s legacy during One Day: Dublin’s Civil Rights Experience February 7th\, April 18th\, and August 1st at 10 AM\, a powerful reader’s theatre held in the very church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his first public speech at age 15. \nStep back in time to 1944 in Georgia. \nJim Crow laws had a stronghold. The South stood divided\, not by borders\, but rather by color. Where you shopped\, how you traveled\, when you could speak\, what you ate\, and how you lived was determined by the color of your skin. \nOne fateful day in 1944\, a young man on edge came to Dublin\, Georgia where he gave a speech during a contest. His words stirred souls and he won the contest. From that high\, he loaded a bus\, proud and confident. Then came a moment that solidified his future: he was commanded to sit in the back of the bus. An ordinary moment. An ordinary bus. An ordinary command for its time. \nAn extraordinary boy. \nOne Day\nStep into the world of a young Martin Luther King\, Jr. Journey into the South in 1944 during One Day: Dublin’s Civil Rights Experience\, reader’s theatre where you are the actor. This living play chronicles the Civil Rights Movement\, capturing it through the lives and legacies of those who lived it. Dublin’s rich Civil Rights history is detailed\, including highlights of the speech King gave on that fateful day\, April 17\, 1944 when he was first asked to step to the back of the bus. Other highlights include a focus on Herbert “Hub” Dudley\, African American entrepreneur who built a business empire in Dublin. One of his many notable contributions: owning and operating the Dudley Motel\, Retreat\, and Amoco Service Station where Dr. King\, Andrew Young\, Maynard Jackson\, and other notable Civil Rights leaders met\, strategized\, and stayed as they travelled across the Southeast. \nYour Role\nGroups of all sizes are welcome. This experience is intended for all ages. There are reading role and nonspeaking roles. Everyone plays a part\, even if as a witness to the history as it unfolds. \nEach person will be given a role card\, detailing their part. \nThe reverse of the card gives a deeper history on a person\, place\, or event during the Civil Rights Movement. \nA leader will guide groups through the experience. \nThe experience is held inside Dublin\, Georgia’s historic First African Baptist Church where Martin Luther King\, Jr. gave his first public speech at the age of 15 on April 17\, 1944. A guided tour of the church is included\, and guided tour of MLK Monument Park can be requested. \nCost\n$8+ fees per person\, advance tickets only.  \nTickets available now! DESCRIPTION:Be charmed as the wee ones express their Irish spirit during St. Patrick’s Baby Erin Go Bragh Contest! \nBaby Erin Go Bragh\nThe annual Baby Erin Go Bragh contest will be held in conjunction with the Miss Emerald City Pageant on Saturday\, February 28th at Dublin High School Auditorium at 9 AM. \nDetails\nBaby Erin Go Bragh is open to ages newborn to two years. Contestants compete in dressy clothing – preferably Sunday best. Contestants are not expected to wear St. Patrick’s costumes. They are judged on best attire\, best smile & best personality. There is also an optional Photogenic Competition and People’s Choice award. \nRegistration\nBaby Erin Go Bragh Applicants must live in or adjacent to Laurens County including: Johnson\, Twiggs\, Wheeler\, Wilkinson\, Bleckley\, Emanuel\, Dodge\, Washington\, Telfair\, and Treutlen or have grandparents who live in Laurens County. The contest fee is $50 per contestant and an additional $20 for photogenic entry (1 photo). \nPhotogenic\nPhotogenic competition is also optional. The photogenic entry must be uploaded at time of registration. All judging for the photogenic competition will be done online by our pageant judges. Baby girl winners will receive a St. Patrick’s themed crown and banner. SUMMARY:St. Patrick's Pancake Supper
DESCRIPTION:Feed your stomach and soul during St. Patrick’s Pancake Supper. Don your green and dive in as friends old and new gather around the griddles for a night full of laughs!  A Dublin GA tradition\, the Exchange Club of Dublin encourages you to feed your Irish spirit during Dublin GA’s “All You Can Eat” Pancake Supper. \nEat like an Irishman\nFeaturing all the pancakes\, bacon\, sausage\, eggs\, milk\, orange juice\, and a huge variety of different flavored syrup you can eat\, the Pancake Supper is held on Thursday\, March 12th beginning at 4 PM until 8 PM at Dublin Middle School located at 1501 North Jefferson Street. Each batch of homemade pancakes is cooked fresh on a huge handmade griddle\, and served up piping hot. \n**Shuttle service is provided from 4 PM to 8 PM from Dublin Corners Shopping Center’s parking lot to Dublin Middle School.**  \nWatch as hundreds of pancakes are dropped onto the hot griddles and slowly turn\, cooking to perfection. Bet you can’t eat just one plate! \nAvailable to eat in or take out\, the Exchange Club offers drive through to carry your breakfast dinner home. They will pile the plate high\, and you can take the yum to go! \nPancake Supper Tickets\nTickets are $10 each in advance or $12 at the door. He felt the community should celebrate in honor of its Irish namesake\, and others agreed. Watch the kids go crazy as floats come their way during this festive parade. Wave at all the frilly green floats as “Lucky” the leprechaun makes his way into town surrounded by floats full of creativity as they make their way through the parade route. \nJoin the Fun\nOrganized by Dublin Civitan Club\, entry deadline to be in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Parade is March 5th. Lineup is determined by date the entry fee is received.
