Listening to stories from his family provided the foundation for his talent. He began retelling his family stories as a child and started adding to stories with his own life experiences until he was repeatedly asked to “tell it again\, on purpose.” Davis has been most attracted to familial stories and those related to his roots and locality. \n\nDavis served as a United Methodist Minister for over twenty years and has authored several books and original recordings. He has also been awarded the Circle of Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Storytelling Network. \nThe Dublin Page of Storytelling\nSmith’s of Dublin began hosting An Evening of Storytelling to bring arts and culture to downtown Dublin GA. Smith’s owner\, Natalie Curry\, initiated this recurring event in Dublin in 2016. SUMMARY:St. Patrick's Leprechaun Contest
DESCRIPTION:Leprechauns multiply by the dozens at the 59th Annual Leprechaun Contest at the Dublin High School Auditorium on Monday\, March 9th at 6 PM! Sponsored by Leadership Dublin-Laurens County\, the annual Leprechaun Contest is an official St. Patrick’s Festival Event. \nBit ‘O Blarney\nIrish green and creativity adorn wee 1st\, 2nd and 3rd grade students from the Laurens County area schools and homeschool students. Clever contestants compete against other children from their age group to be crowned the winner. Participants are judged on makeup\, originality\, authenticity\, imagination\, and general appearance. The top three boys and three girls from each grade receive trophies. The real prize for everyone is to see the winners in the Dublin St. Patrick’s Parade on Super Saturday! \nAll are welcome to attend to give a clap and dance a jig for the contestants. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 to 3. Children under 3 are FREE. Dublin’s original festival kicked off in 1966\, thanks to local radio personality\, Dick Killebrew\, who celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by playing Irish music and telling Irish stories and jokes. He felt the community should celebrate in honor of its Irish namesake\, and others agreed. The first festival lasted for 11 days and included a Parade and Pancake Supper which are still celebrated today. The Festival has grown and changed over the years\, and now includes six weeks of celebration.
