Go fish at Hugh Gillis Public Fishing Area in Laurens County. Located minutes from Dublin GA, this 109-acre lake and 640 acres of surrounding terrain is a breathtaking spot managed to provide excellent fishing for anglers of all ages. This lake is intensively managed to provide excellent fishing for both boat and bank anglers and has numerous humps and standing timber to attract fish. Major species of fish in the lake include the largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie and redear sunfish. In addition to fishing, the area provides an excellent setting for picnicking, camping and enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends.
Amenities & Hours
Facilities at Hugh Gillis Public Fishing Area include concrete boat ramp, canoe access, fishing pier, lake, nature trails, picnic shelters, picnic sites, primitive campsites and restrooms. The fishing area is open year-round, May 1st through September 30th 24 hours a day and October 1st through April 30th from sunrise until sunset!
Hunting Dates 2023-2024
Hugh Gillis Public Fishing Area also offers opportunities for deer and turkey hunting.
- Archery Deer Hunts: October 30th, 2024 – November 10th, 2024
- Specialty Quota Turkey Hunts: April 18th, 2025 – April 19th, 2025 & May 2nd, 2025 – May 3rd, 2025
The camping area and trails are closed during hunts. Please check the Hunting Regulations for more information.
Licenses
Licensing: To help cover the costs of maintaining Hugh Gillis PFA, visitors (ages 16-64) must have one of the following:
- Hunting License
- Fishing License
- Lands Pass
