Visit Dublin GA announces Georgia Tandem Rally is returning to Dublin May 23rd-26th, 2024.
Monday, February 5th 2024, Dublin, Georgia – The 24th edition of the Georgia Tandem Rally (GTR) returns to Dublin on Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd through 26th 2024. The largest tandem rally in the south, GTR features three days of riding through the back roads of Laurens County. Around 80 tandems and 160 people are anticipated on their “bicycles built for two”. GTR last visited Dublin in 2012.
GTR riders go between 30 to 55 miles daily, depending on their fitness levels. On Friday, riders will head to Dudley and points north. Saturday takes the riders to Dexter, Chester and Rentz. Sunday is traditionally a shorter day and features a route that heads towards the south.
GTR riders don’t just ride–they also like to socialize and eat. While in Dublin, riders will experience a welcome party at the Saltwater Fishery, ice cream at the Market on Madison, and a banquet at the Ice House. The riders are also looking forward to the opening of Crooked Finger Brewing and sampling their brews.
Cycling tourism is good for the local economy. Adding up 250 hotel room nights with meals, catering and other purchases, it is estimated that GTR will spend a minimum of $50,000 while the riders are in town.
“It’s been way too long since we last visited Dublin,” said Roger Strauss, who organizes the ride with his wife Eve Kofsky. “It is an entirely new place since 2012. Downtown looks great and there are so many new places to eat.” Strauss continued: “We look forward to riding on the traffic-free roads of Laurens County and thank the drivers in advance for sharing them with us during our visit.”
GTR is based in Marietta and changes locations every year. GTR 2023 was held in Thomasville and GTR 2022 was in Carrollton.
