Visit Dublin GA had the privilege of working with Jordan during the Dublin-Laurens Summer Youth Works Program. Follow along on Jordan’s journey to a few of Dublin GA’s favorite local spots.

Jordan's Journey in Dublin GA

Exploring Theatre Dublin

A historic hallmark of downtown, Theatre Dublin has and continues to provide a reliable source of entertainment and memorable moments for generations. Take a journey to the 1900’s with posters of actors and movies from the time. Much of the original architecture still stands or was recreated, giving the building a retro aesthetic with elements of modernity. Radiating an aura of grandeur, the stage is the biggest center piece.

Black’s Seed Store

As I walked into Black’s Seed Store, an aroma reminiscent of the Great Outdoors that hit me. What caught my eyes were the burgeoning trees and seeds galore. The store offers a variety of flowers, from native beauties to more exotic plants from the Caribbean and Asia. There are also tools to help rid your lawn of ghastly blemishes or to bring out the natural beauty. With the wide array of items for gardeners, Black’s Seed Store supplies the perfect tools to connect with nature.

Full of Sunshine

Brighten your day at Hello Sunshine Co. Hello Sunshine Co. is filled with items that cater to all types of people, such as aprons for grill masters and candles for home bodies. Something that stood out to me is a world map covered in pins that displays the origin of each visitor. The owner, Kim, exemplifies southern charm and hospitality. Whether you are looking for items to help you relax or for that perfect gift for a friend, Hello Sunshine Co. has it all.

Western Flair in South Georgia

Strickland’s Boots brings the West to Georgia. This store contains a wide variety of boot brands, such as Rocky and Thorogood. Though boots are the centerpiece of Strickland’s, Stetson (cowboy) hats, belts, wallets, and even colognes can be found at this shop. Notably, Strickland’s uses a card filing system for each customer instead of digital systems. The cards contain the purchasing history, shoe size, and wishlist of customers. If you are looking to add a bit of western flair to your wardrobe, then Strickland’s Boots has you covered.

Mama P’s Kitchen

Mama P’s Kitchen is a splash of the Caribbean far from the ocean. The staff treats you as if you’re family. The scent of spices that wafts from the kitchen into the dining area leaves you drooling in anticipation. The menu includes staples of Jamaican culture, such as Jerk and Curry Chicken as well as Mama P’s homemade Island Punch. With a combination of delectable food and hospitality, Mama P’s is the place to eat.

Jordan will soon be a senior at Dublin High School. He plays trumpet in his high school’s band, loves animals, and enjoys learning and deep diving into new subjects. His top three schools he will be applying to are Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, and Tuskegee University to pursue either Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering.

Arilyn Erickson

*Cue Hamilton music* How does an artistic, eccentric, sister of five, and a Cajun, dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in a Southeastern state by parental job prospects, end up Visit Dublin GA’s Project Manager? Fresh from graduating with her bachelor’s in psychology, Arilyn Erickson started work at Visit Dublin GA in December of 2021. Her love of helping people, knowledge of Dublin, curiosity, and creative spirit are exhibited in her ability to ensure guests are well informed and comfortable, contribute fresh ideas for improving the Visitors Center and developing tourism products, and promoting local businesses, locations, and events via our website and social media. Arilyn enjoys singing to the plants in the Visitors Center gardens (the Rosalynn Carter Pollinator Pitstop was one of her first projects), playing with traveler’s furbabies, posting aesthetic photography (especially food and unique outdoor scenes), and creating extra punny blogs.
